Skills Assessments

What is a Skill Assessment

A skills assessment is an official check to confirm that your qualifications and work experience meet Australian standards for your occupation. It is a key requirement for most skilled visas, such as the 189, 190, 491 and 186 visas, and is required for the 482 visa in some circumstances. This is Australia’s way of ensuring you have the skills, training and experience needed for your nominated occupation.

Why You Need a Skills Assessment

Most skilled visas require a positive skills assessment before you can lodge an Expression of Interest or apply for a visa. A skills assessment helps you:

Prove your qualifications are recognised in Australia

Show your work experience meets industry benchmarks

Is mandatory to lodge an Expression of Interest (EOI) or to apply for a sponsor visa

It assures employers that your skills and experience are up to the required standard
