The 482 Skills In Demand Visa includes three different visa streams.
The core skills visa pathway is expected to account for most visas issued under this program. Trades workers must apply based on The Core Skills Occupation List created by Jobs and Skills Australia. This visa is for individuals earning between the minimum applicable CIST ($76,515.00 as at 01.07.2025) and the minimum applicable SSIT ($141,210.00 as at 01.07.2025). The earnings will be adjusted annually.
The Specialist Skills Visa allows to sponsor any ANZSCO occupation that doesn’t belong to the trades, machinery operators, drivers, and labourers group. The minimum applicable Specialist Skills Income Threshold or SSIT is $141,210.00 as at 01.07.2025). The earnings will be adjusted annually.
Designated Area Migration Agreement is designed for workers nominated by employers who have a Labour Agreement.
This visa enables employers to address labour shortages by bringing in skilled workers where employers can’t source an appropriately skilled Australian worker. This visa allows you to stay with your sponsor employer up to 4 years. Hong Kong passport holders may stay up to 5 years.
The specialist skills visa pathway has no occupational list and comes with a processing turnaround of 7 days. Trades occupations, machinery operators, drivers and labourers are excluded from this visa class. There will be 3,000 places allocated per year. The ‘specialist skills’ visa is intended for those earning over $141,210 per year if nominated between 01.07.2205 and 30.06.2026

The Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional Visa (Subclass 494), or ‘494 Visa’, enables regional employers across Australia to address identified labour shortages within their local area by sponsoring skilled workers where it is not possible to recruit an appropriately skilled Australian worker.

Finding an employer willing to sponsor you is a great step, but it doesn’t mean you can lodge your visa immediately. The process takes normally several weeks to complete, including Labour Market Testing, documents collection, and necessary adjustments.
If your employer is already an approved sponsor with an SBS approval or LA Agreement in place, that’s great! However this is just one step of the process and your nomination is always required. We’re happy to discuss the process with your employer.
Each visa carries “time of application criteria” and “time of decision criteria”. Is a particular requirement is a Time of Application criterion, you must be able to demonstrate it before you apply for the visa.
If you have already been in Australia for a while, the declarations and claims you make on each visa are often cross checked by Department officials. It is important to keep consistency across your applications.
